Playing to Win

I have seem to find a streak of good form lately. Playing great golf in my casual rounds, along with performing when it matters in mini's, it has been a good streak of golf and I couldn't be happier. It started with my first victory at a mini which was held at Z Boaz, followed up with a 2nd place finish at Turner Park, to a second place finish in Granbury, and two victories at Veterans one at the Team DiscQualified mini and the other at the A Town Aces mini (At Veterans shot two of my absolute best rounds 49 and a 50).

Looking back at my play on all of those days I felt that I never had to do anything special. I was playing smart golf, and when I had a bad hole it never lingered on in my play. For example when I shot a 50 at Veterans in the A Town Aces mini the I had a unfortunate 2 holes in the front 9, took a 4 and a 5 but still pursued and killed it on the back nine. Even if I would roller coaster, I would work on getting my feet on level ground and make the shots I should and relax and continue the smart play.

It hasn't been an improvement in my putting or anything like that. I am just seeing lines that I didn't before. I trust my discs more, I have settled into carving out shots in my mind before I throw and just making what's in my mind a reality. Upgrading the array of shots I have, seeing new lines on holes and trusting my capabilities of executing. My confidence is building and I need to stick behind it so I can reach my ultimate goal.

At the Team DiscQualified mini I had my first taste of playing with the lead. After the first round I stood with a 5 stroke lead. I had never played in that kind of a situation before. I was more nervous than I was on my first throw of the day. I tried not to think of everyone else's score but it was stuck in my mind and I was getting to the point of psyching myself out of shots. Missing gimme putts and other things like that really had my nerves going. Going into hole 10 I had a 1 stroke lead and was looking as if I was going to slip up to a very competitive player who I have a ton of respect for. Hole 10 I missed my line and ended up right of the basket putting under a tree about 35-40 feet out. I smashed home the putt to hold onto my 1 stroke lead. I kept that 1 stroke lead till hole 13 when I got a very nice turkey, birdieing 13,14,15 to extend my lead to 3 strokes, and the rest was smooth sailing. After shooting two quality rounds (49 and 53). I took home the top prize. The DQ crew has been great towards me with tons of encouragement. I owe a lot to all the members involved in helping me improve my play. So thank you to everyone at Team DQ.

I am going to continue this play and trust myself moving forward practicing every day pursuing to improve even more not letting myself plateau out. Seeing new courses, lines, discs, and throwing styles. Allowing myself to become a Swiss Army Knife so I can work out of every situation and play good golf.

I am a Discmaniac!
